I’m a breakfast-loving, blanket-scarf obsessed, Yorkie-owning Colorado native currently living in Germany with my Air Force husband! It’s been an adventure, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to 44 countries and counting—traveling is such a priceless experience and, in my mind, the greatest way to learn anything in the world and grow as a person.

BUT as you might have guessed, I have another passion that is just as thrilling and rewarding: writing! It’s been my dream to write a book ever since I was a child—my sister even gave me a little white book with blank pages “to write your first book in” when I was five years old. I made the decision to make that dream reality on a paddle board in the middle of a crystal-clear lake in Florida, the ideal place for making a life-changing decision, right? That night, I found out from a local that there were poisonous snakes and apparently an alligator in the lake I was on (I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry), but that just made me more determined to write a book. I wrote Loveless, my very first, in two and a half months while working full-time and enjoyed every minute of it. I’ve worked as everything from a reporter to a media escort to the speechwriter for the commander of a 15,000-person Air Force Base, but something has always brought me back to creating characters and worlds sandwiched between two ends of a book.

The idea for Loveless came from so many things, but the underlying theme started from a single question that I couldn’t get out of my mind: What would our world be like if people forgot how to love? And even more, what would it look like if these same people were trying desperately to discover love all over again? I wrote Loveless because I want to show that love has so many forms. The simple, bare basics of love–laughter, sympathy, generosity–are so underrated in this world today, but things that are so needed at the same time. Loveless goes beyond your typical love story and underlines something that could change the world if we let it: Love is worth the fight.

It’s my goal and my passion to write books that inspire, that touch on universal topics in a fresh, new way and stay with someone long after they put the book down. Creating worlds, walking by characters, and watching a story unfold from my mind to the page is like nothing else, and you won’t see me setting aside this keyboard anytime soon.

Thanks so much for taking time out of your crazy life to read a piece of mine! And hey, don’t forget to spread the love(less). (;

My best,

Marissa Howard
